The Frigid Festival presents NPR host, storyteller and standup comic Ophira Eisenberg’s new show “How To Get Rid of Scars” on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the Kraine Theater in New York City. Written and performed by Ophira, the show details the harrowing and hilarious story of acquiring and living with the dozens of scars that cover her body. From slicing the tip of her finger into a meat grinder at the age of 4, to surviving a near fatal car crash; from the Cesarean section she narrowly avoided, to eventually revealing the smallest, most frightening and powerful scar of all... Ophira has more scars than anyone. You don’t think so? Don’t worry, the evening has a competitive element, too.
Ophira leads us through this imaginative and darkly funny examination of human frailty and resilience. This show takes true first-person storytelling to a new theatrical level by adding the voices and talents of 2 other scarred storytellers (Michaela Murphy and Mike Albo) to round out this narrative about traveling on the path of wounded to warrior, broken and whole, and then back again. AND they get to the bottom of How to get rid of their scars, a question which becomes: If there was a way, would they?
There is so much more conversation in our culture about reclaiming and accepting the body we find ourselves in. But there is little on the actual flesh, the scarred flesh, not from chosen tattoo art, but from life inflicting itself upon us, and leaving a mark that never goes away. This show also explores that once you have a scar, how difficult it might be to imagine life without it.
